Overview Vanderbilt University Medical Center seeks a Clinical Laboratory Technologist for a night shift (6:30p.m. – 7:00a.m.) with a working understanding of medical technology and the ability to recognize problems. The role requires effective communication, the ability to work well under high stress, and competency in patient care across all age groups—neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Key Responsibilities Processing and testing in one or more departments during a shift Mastery and practice of laboratory policy and procedure Intimate knowledge of testing methods, theory, instruments, and tools used for diagnostic utility Perform quality assurance, kit validation, instrument maintenance, proficiency testing, environmental monitoring, reagent preparation, diagnostic reporting, and alarm management Incident reporting and documentation Maintain professional and medical ethics, confidentiality policy, PHI and patient privacy guardianship Specimen collection specialist duties High‑complexity specialty management Assist technologists and the Administrative Laboratory Director as needed and where appropriate Technical Capabilities Diagnostic Testing – Fundamental Awareness: Demonstrates proficiency in practical diagnostic testing and delivers results competently. Equipment Maintenance – Fundamental Awareness: Has some experience or training in maintenance activities for assigned instruments. Quality Assurance – Fundamental Awareness: Understands the goal of increasing organizational productivity and applies quality management practices that enhance products and services. Data Analysis – Fundamental Awareness: Has received training or experience in data analysis and performs routine analytical work using tools such as ACL, SQL, or SAS. Core Accountabilities Organizational Impact: Executes responsibilities with awareness of how output affects related areas and teams. Problem Solving/Complexity of Work: Analyzes moderately complex problems using technical experience and judgment. Position Qualifications Certifications: LIC‑Medical Technologist from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Work Experience: Less than 1 year of relevant work experience. Education: Graduate of an approved discipline‑specific program (required).
