Director of Nursing Location: Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant, Ellicott City, MD 21042. Salary: $92,700.00 - $123,600.00. Responsibilities Direct the day-to-day operations of the Lutheran Village Miller’s Grant’s 12‑bed Health Care Center and a 20‑suite Assisted Living program in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate nursing policies, procedures, and protocols. Direct daily operations of the nursing department, including work schedules, performance evaluations, and delegation of duties. Conduct routine rounds to ensure quality care, staff performance, and adherence to standards. Maintain compliance with all regulatory guidelines; prepare for and participate in inspections and audits. Maintain nursing documentation, reports, and required records. Ensure effective communication across departments and with leadership teams. Assess staffing needs; recruit, hire, and retain qualified nursing staff in collaboration with Human Resources. Assign licensed and certified personnel to ensure adequate coverage and care delivery. Supervise nursing staff performance and address disciplinary actions when necessary. Verify nursing licensure and credentials; oversee nurse aide training and supervision. Monitor absenteeism and adjust schedules to ensure consistent care. Monitor resident care, medication administration, and treatment plans. Participate in care plan development, assessments, and interdisciplinary meetings. Ensure timely documentation by physicians and nurses; oversee the quality of nurses’ notes and resident records. Respond to resident concerns, grievances, and changes in condition. Provide direct care as needed and support clinical staff with complex cases. Implement infection control, safety, and emergency procedures. Develop and manage the department’s quality assurance and performance improvement programs. Ensure adherence to residents’ rights, including dignity, privacy, and informed consent. Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional and ethical standards. Collaborate with QA, infection control, discharge planning, and safety committees. Develop and conduct orientation and in‑service training for nursing staff. Support continuing education efforts for RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and supervisory staff. Participate in professional development and maintain current licensure. Prepare and manage the nursing department’s budget. Ensure availability of medications, equipment, and supplies. Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Maryland. Valid CPR certification. Experience Minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience in a long‑term care setting. Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations governing gerontological nursing and long‑term care practices. Minimum of three years of nursing leadership or administrative experience, preferably in long‑term care or related healthcare environment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential matters. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail in writing, proofreading, managing priorities, and meeting deadlines. Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Skilled in the use of standard office equipment and technology. Maintains professionalism, composure, and a positive attitude when managing challenging situations. Physically able to move throughout the workday and lift items up to 35 pounds using safe handling practices. May be necessary to assist with resident evacuation during emergency situations. Complies with organizational health and safety requirements, including vaccination policies or valid exemptions.
