The selected candidate will contribute to the development, assessment, and instruction of the preclinical curriculum in the osteopathic medical program. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and growing team dedicated to providing an innovative, student-centered curriculum. This position may be filled by either a contract renewable or tenure-track faculty member, to be determined at the point of offer after consideration of applicable experience and credentials. Individuals who currently hold tenure at a regionally accredited institution may be recommended for tenure or retreat rights at UNC following consultation with appropriate faculty groups and university administration, and upon approval by the Board of Trustees. Academic rank and salary will depend upon the selected applicant's current rank and experience. The compensation range for this position is $114,000 - $145,000. Job Duties Teaching and Curriculum Development (60-80%) Teach microbiology/immunology concepts in the preclinical curriculum of the osteopathic medical program. Utilize active learning methods such as team-based learning (TBL), case-based learning (CBL), and flipped classrooms. Develop and deliver innovative course content that aligns with the college's mission and educational goals. Participate in curriculum development and review, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and best practices in medical education. Research and Scholarship (10-20%) Engage in research or scholarly activities in the candidate's area of expertise, with opportunities for collaboration within and outside the college. Mentor students in research projects, fostering critical thinking and evidence-based practice. Service (10-20%) Serve on college and university committees as assigned. Participate in academic advising and mentoring of medical students. Contribute to the college's mission of community engagement and healthcare improvement through outreach and service activities. Support accreditation and assessment activities, including data collection and reporting. Minimum Qualifications DO, MD, or PhD in Microbiology, Immunology or an academically appropriate degree from an accredited institution. Teaching experience in higher education, preferably in a medical or health professions college. For tenure-track positions: evidence of research potential, including publications or presentations in peer-reviewed forums. Experience with curriculum development and assessment in medical education is preferred. Required Skills/Competencies Demonstrated excellence in teaching biomedical sciences in a higher education setting. Experience with active learning methodologies such as TBL, CBL, or similar instructional strategies would be preferred. Proficiency in curriculum design, delivery, and assessment. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team. Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. Evidence of research productivity, including publications and/or grant funding, preferred but not required for teaching-intensive roles. Preferred Qualifications Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and teaching in active learning modalities in a medical college.
